The facilitation of incentives for foreign investors in Slovenia

The Slovenian government recently approved legislative changes allowing foreign investors based in the EU to apply for state incentives prior to registering a company or establishing a subsidiary in Slovenia.

However, they must complete registration by the time they receive the incentive. This move aims to streamline processes and attract more foreign investment into Slovenia. The amendments to the Investment Promotion Act align with EU regulations, permitting investors to submit incentive applications without prior registration, provided it is completed before incentive disbursement.

This provision applies exclusively to EU-based companies, while those from non-EU countries must still register in Slovenia beforehand. Additionally, the revised act expands eligible sectors for incentives, encompassing lignite, broadband, energy storage, transmission, and agricultural productivity projects under the European Innovation Partnership. It also supports aid measures restricting beneficiaries from utilizing research and innovation outcomes in other EU states.
