Split, one of Croatia's most iconic cities, is undergoing a monumental transformation through the largest construction project in the country.
This ambitious endeavor, centered on the Žnjan plateau, is expected to completely redefine the area, turning it into a vibrant hub for both locals and tourists. Six months into the project, significant progress has been made, and the full vision is starting to take shape.
The Žnjan plateau, located along Split’s scenic coastline, is being revitalized to create a modern, multi-functional urban space. Currently the largest Croatian construction project, it aims to enhance the area’s appeal, providing a new space for social, cultural, and recreational activities. Once completed, it is expected to become a favorite meeting spot for both residents and visitors to the city.
Among the most notable aspects of the project is the construction of a vast underground garage, essential for addressing the high demand for parking. The garage’s floor and ceiling have been completed, with ongoing work on the superstructure columns and walkways. Solar panels are also being installed, bringing sustainable energy to the complex.
In addition to the garage, the project includes extensive public spaces. Walkways and edge beams are being built, and an amphitheater is planned to host cultural and community events, enriching the local lifestyle and making the Žnjan plateau a key cultural destination.
The project is part of a broader urban development plan, aiming to modernize the city while elevating the quality of life for its residents. Žnjan is envisioned as a tourist hotspot with cafes, shops, and recreational areas, creating a vibrant seaside destination.
Despite minor challenges, the project remains on track. Project manager Zoran Jakelić expressed gratitude to the local community for their patience, noting the long-term benefits this revitalization will bring to Split's economy, tourism, and overall quality of life. Once completed, the new Žnjan will embody the future of Croatian urban development.
